Barbara Jean Hoey (nee Kirk) passed away peacefully in her home on June 28 with her family by her side. Born August 26, 1937 in Brooklyn, NY. She graduated from Belleville High School and soon thereafter met the love of her life, George Hoey.
Barbara and George moved to Keansburg in 1965 and bought a home that they referred to as "God's little acre." Barbara was a long-time member of the Ladies' Auxiliary of New Point Comfort Fire Company #1, where she served two terms as president, secretary and trustee.
Barbara impacted many lives and her home was an understood open invitation to family and friends. Her optimistic, selfless spirit made her a confidant of countless meaningful conversations around the dining room table. She was loved for her supportive shoulder, non-judgmental nature and mischievous sense of humor.
Barbara was predeceased by her loving and devoted husband George of 58 years, a twin sister Carol, and brothers Kenneth, Donald and Gordon. She is survived by her son, George of Union, NJ (Bettina Hoey), daughters, Catherine of New York, NY, and Brenda of Keansburg NJ (John Doran), grandsons Luke and Evan Hoey, and close family friend, Sherry Novembre of Somerville, NJ (Chris Luzhak). And a brother Douglas Kirk of Clinton, NJ.
She served as a foster care mother, a substitute teacher, and a softball coach. She was a co-founder of the Girls Softball League of Keansburg.
Barbara attended Brookdale Community College in Lincroft, NJ. She worked as an accounts receivable clerk at Werner's Dodge, and later as a senior payroll clerk for the town of Keansburg. She then spent 19 years as a clerk with the Red Bank Post Office retiring in 1999.
In her later years, Barbara worked as a secretary at the First United Methodist Church of Keansburg. She played "Words with Friends" and was expert at the Times crossword puzzle. She was overjoyed by a winning lottery ticket or Super Bowl box. And after a rocky courtship, came to love dearly her cat, Monty.
Visitation will be on Tuesday, July 1, from 4pm to 8pm at the John F. Pfleger Funeral Home, 115 Tindall Rd, Middletown.
A funeral mass will be offered on Wednesday, July 2 at 10am at St. Ann's Roman Catholic Church, Keansburg.

Barbara's family & friends,
I worked with Barbara at Red Bank post office during the late '80s. She was very friendly to everyone. My condolences to all of you. God called another Angel to Heaven.
