SALEM - Barbara Jean Hoyle, 78, peacefully passed away Sunday, November 9, 2025, at Salem Regional Medical Center.
She was born on March 30, 1947, in St. Albans, WV, to the late Clyde McCallister Sr. and Hazel A. (Blankenship) McCallister.
Barbara graduated from Milton High School in 1965.
She met Merle E. Hoyle in 1989, and they were married on March 10, 1990. Together they attended many drag races in their younger years and continued to enjoy NASCAR and drag racing events that were televised. She was a very supportive wife and friend to Merle, always interested in his hobbies and encouraging his creativeness. Barbara and Merle also found a shared interest in woodworking, which they always worked on as a team.
Barbara was an exceptionally loving woman and a mother to all. She loved every moment she was able to spend with her family. Her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren became her world, and she made sure that her love was known.
Barbara was a fierce woman with many eccentric traits that her family will continue to cherish. She loved to sing and dance, especially if her classic country music was playing. She had a fondness for chocolate frosties, butterflies, and birds. Those who knew Barbara understood that she cared deeply for animals. She shared a special connection with her dog, Opie, who will be missing her greatly.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her sister, Elaine Bryant; her ten brothers, Michael, Delford, Elvin, Clyde Jr., Donald, Creed, Delbert, Willard, Paul, and James McCallister; and her sisters-in-law Ila and Shirley McCallister.
Barbara leaves behind her husband, Merle E. Hoyle; three loving daughters, Hazel (George Henry) Witherspoon, Nicole S. Howells, and Corrina Smith; one son, Andrew J. Buckius; nine grandchildren, Jonathan Witherspoon, Ashley (Ryan) Wadlow, Corey (Tabitha) Buckius, Luke Howells, Chelsea (John) Howells, Tyler (Kayla) Winters, Cierah Buckius, Skylynn Smith, and Konnor Buckius; and twelve great-grandchildren, Aidyn, Liam, Brinsley, Aubree, Kamdyn, Savannah, Gunner, Emma, Gatlin, Lily, Katherine, and River.
Barbara also leaves behind to cherish her memory a brother, Richard (Jean) McCallister, and several nieces and nephews.
