Barbara E. Janiszewski (nee Savage) of
Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, formerly of Norwood, Glenolden, and Ridley Park, Pennsylvania, was called home to be with the Lord on December 17, 2025, at the age of 79. Now she is reunited with her husband of 43 years, Richard E. Janiszewski, her parents, Richard S. Savage and Lorraine (Savage nee Taylor) Anikey, her aunt, Norma Ammann, her uncle Herb Taylor, and her brother, Richard Savage.
Barbara was a loving mother to Jonathan R. Janiszewski (Sarah), grandmom to Nathaniel and Luke, aunt to Amy, Jennifer, Susan, Valerie, David, Edward, Andrea, and Veronica, and great-aunt to many nephews and nieces.
Barbara grew up in Delaware County, Pennsylvania and attended St. George School, where she made lifelong friends. She graduated from Archbishop Prendergast HS and went to work in the headquarters of the Pennsylvania Railroad and later the Penn Central. Over the next 12 years she and her husband married, traveled, and saw the world before she retired from the railroad to dedicate herself to her family and their newborn son. Later she would return to work as an Insurance Manager and Facilities Director at the Benjamin Rush Center for Mental Health and Mental Retardation (later Northwestern Human Services) culminating in another twenty five year career.
Throughout her life, Barbara held a strong faith in God, and a commitment to Christ and the Eucharist. A devout Catholic, but not one for the limelight, she was blessed to serve others as a volunteer in her parish and community, and she shared her faith by example, imparting it to her family. She volunteered at the Our Lady of Calvary School office and served as a member and President of the Our Lady of Calvary Home and School Association. She was a Den Mother for Cub Pack 460, and later served Boy Scout Troop 460 as Committee Chair and Treasurer. She also served as a member of the Holy Ghost Prep Mother's Guild.
After retirement, Babara treasured her time caring for her grandsons and maintained a servant's heart. She served as a member of the Holy Family Associates, and the Our Lady of Calvary Mercy Ministry up to her passing, volunteering for charities including the Saint Margaret Castello Home, the Sisters of Life, and the Giving Tree at Our Lady of Calvary.
Whether it was delivering gift cards and baby supplies to needy mothers-to-be, packing sandwiches for the homeless, caring for sick and elderly members of her own family, nurturing her grandchildren, or just feeding stray animals, Barbara was a generous and compassionate woman who spent her life providing care for others. She made real friends wherever she went, loved the theater, music, ballet, going to movies, vacationing at the beach, and annual trips to Key West. She was an avid Phillies and Eagles fan, a joy to be around, one of the funniest people you could meet, and she will be missed dearly by her family, friends, and all who had the pleasure to know her.
