Barbara Johnson, age 81, passed away on June 18, 2025
Barbara Ann Johnson of Prophetstown, Illinois, formerly of Tinley Park and Mokena, passed away peacefully on June 18, 2025, surrounded by her loving family.
Born in Tinley Park to Rudolph and Rose Schmoock, Barbara lived a life full of joy, grace, and deep devotion to those she loved. She met the love of her life, Lesley Johnson, in a charming twist of fate-living next door to his sibling. Les liked to say he used to chase Barb until she let him catch her. That chase ended in a snowball fight outside her school, and a beautiful love story began. They married on August 19, 1961, and together built a life rooted in laughter, loyalty, and love.
Barbara and Les raised their three children-Laurie, Lesley Jr., and Lisa-in Mokena, Illinois. She embraced her roles as a wife, mother, and later grandmother with unshakable dedication and warmth. Though their son Lesley Jr. passed away in 1974, his memory remained close to Barbara's heart every day of her life.
Barbara found joy in simple pleasures: the rhythm of two-stepping, line and square dancing with Les, the serenity of horseback rides and camping trips, and the beauty of her flower gardens. She was a woman who nurtured not only plants but also the people around her, sharing kindness with neighbors, patients, and friends alike.
Professionally, Barbara spent many years working in a local dental office, where her steady presence and gentle demeanor made a lasting impression on coworkers and patients.
Barbara is survived by her beloved husband of nearly 64 years, Lesley Johnson; daughters Laurie and Lisa; and many dear relatives and friends who will carry her memory forward with love and laughter.
A service to honor Barbara's life will be held on Wednesday, June 25, 2025, at 11:00 AM at Homewood Memorial Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family invites you to plant a flower in your garden in Barbara's memory-a small way to keep her love blooming.
