William Richard Segal, 68, passed away on June 2, 2025, while visiting family in Illinois. He retired to the Pebblecreek community in Goodyear, Arizona 3 years ago which he loved.
Born on December 22, 1956, in Phoenix Arizona, Bill grew up in Arizona and attended Maryland and Madison Meadows and Central High School before attending the University of Arizona. He played football from 1974-1979. Over the course of his career, he held a variety of roles that reflected his drive and charisma. He worked in sales and management at Abbott Laboratories, served as National Sales Manager at Ventana Medical Supply, owned a Famous Sam's Restaurant, and most recently worked in pool remodel sales.
Bill was a beloved husband to Maureen Segal for 43 years and a devoted father to Alex and Jacob. He is remembered by his 5 siblings, spouses and families. He will also be missed by his in-laws and extended Harkness family. He was preceded in death by his parents, Nona and Ralph Segal.
Known for his outgoing nature and generous spirit. Bill had an infectious enthusiasm for life. He loved meeting new people and brought warmth and humor wherever he went. In retirement, he embraced travel and cherished time spent with family, and friends. His many hobbies included pickleball, bocce, cycling, cribbage, woodworking, pottery, and poker-each reflecting his zest for learning and connection. A Celebration of Life was held on June 28th to honor Bill's memory. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to support scholarships for football at give.uafoundation.org/segal.
Bill's legacy lives on through the many lives he touched with his kindness, generous heart, energy, and love for life. May his memory bring comfort to those who knew him
