Barbara Garwood Karpa
October 31, 1949 - April 13, 2025
Barbara Garwood Karpa, a loving mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully on April 13, 2025, in Denham Springs, Louisiana, at the age of 75.
Born in Clifton Forge, Virginia, Barbara was a devoted mother to three sons and was always lovingly present in their lives. Her kindness, unwavering patience, and gentle spirit shaped her family in untold ways. She taught her children how to find humor in every situation, how to weather life's challenges with grace, and how to treat others with compassion.
Barbara had a deep appreciation for classic movies and the music that accompanied them. She also loved the companionship of her pets throughout life, especially her cats and dogs. Those who knew her well will remember her unique sense of humor, which brightened all of our lives and will be profoundly missed. Her faith in God was strong and she always relied on Him for the strength she needed to raise her children and be there for her family. God worked through her in countless ways, until the very end, to leave a lasting impact on those who loved her.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Frank Snead Garwood and Elsie White Garwood, as well as her son, Joshua Bernard Karpa.
She is survived by her former husband, John Karpa III, her sons Geoffrey Karpa (Anne) and Sean Karpa (Chelsy), and three grandchildren: Amelia, Eleanor, and a grandson on the way. Barbara's legacy of love, laughter, and gentleness will live on through them.
Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend a Memorial Services from the chapel of St. Jane de Chantal Church 72040 Maple St. Abita Springs, LA 70420, on Tuesday, April 22, 2025 at 10:00 a.m.
