Barbara J. Kelly, RN, BSN
11/9/1947
Barbara J. Kelly, RN, BSN, 77, of Plum, died peacefully on October 9, 2025, surrounded by her family.
She was the beloved wife of 57 years of James D. Kelly.
She was preceded in death by her parents Charles L. Noll and Alice L. (Jankowski) Noll, and by her Aunt Jeannie Page, and Uncle James and Aunt Ruth Cunningham. Also preceded in death by her sisters-in-law Patricia L. (Bill) Burkey and Dorothy M. (Jack) Gruseck.
She was also survived by her children Matthew J. (Lori Douds) Kelly, Joseph C. (Gretchen Lozenski) Kelly, Kristin J. (Thomas) Wesolowski, and Jill M. (Jeremy) Venanzi.
She was a devoted grandmother to Zachary (Sydni), Samuel, Benjamin, Nicholas, Cole, Kate, Ryan, Justin, Allie, and Carly.
She is also survived by her sisters Patricia Pieper, Kissie (Noel) Larson, Mary Jane (James) Young and their children Megan (Erick), Michael (Tricia), Maura, Jeffrey, Beth (Tony) and Brett (Sara), in addition to many loving cousins.
She is also survived by nieces Lara Beth (Mark) Oswalt, Patricia Burkey, Billie Lynn (Steven) Gorencic, and by special cousins (in-law) Bob (Shirley McClure) Page, Clint (Paulette) Page and Billy (Katy) Cunningham.
Barb was born in Pittsburgh on November 9, 1947 and graduated from Sacred Heart High School. After raising her four children, she decided to go back to school for nursing. She attained her R.N. degree from the Community College of Allegheny County (CCAC), then she earned her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Clarion University. She began working as a nurse at West Penn Hospital, on Ward 3C, the oncology unit. She stayed for 25 years, touching numerous lives.
She was a lifelong member of Our Lady of Joy Church in Plum, where she volunteered after retirement. She was a devoted (and frustrated) Pirates fan.
However, her greatest love was her grandchildren. She attended as many of their events as possible, and nothing made her smile as much as when she was surrounded by her laughing "babies."
She committed her life to the service of others with unwavering compassion. A scholarship endowment for nursing students has been created in her name with CCAC. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Barbara J. Kelly Nursing Scholarship.
Donations can be made at ccac.link/give or CCAC Educational Foundation and click "Donate Now." Then make your donation "In Memory" of Barb to the "Barbara J Kelly, RN, BSN, Endowed Nursing Scholarship."
Friends received, Wednesday, 2:00 pm-4:00 pm & 6:00 pm-8:00 pm at Soxman Funeral Homes, Ltd./Roth Chapel,7450 Saltsburg Road (at Universal Road) Penn Hills. Mass of Christian Burial, Thursday, 10:00 am in Our Lady of Joy R.C. Church. Interment in National Cemetery of the Alleghenies.
