Bruce S.
Bruce Spofford, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, passed away peacefully on October 9, 2025, at the age of 87. Born on April 16, 1938 in Salem, MA, Bruce lived a full and accomplished life marked by love, curiosity, and dedication to both his family and his work.
Bruce is survived by his devoted wife of 60 years, Jeanette, and their children Nikki Bruni (husband Joe), Chris Spofford (partner Sarah), Michelle Yoder (husband Andrew), and Leslie Frater. He is also survived by his brothers Bob Spofford (wife Melinda) and David Spofford (wife Jan) Bruce leaves behind 14 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren, as well as numerous nieces and nephews- all of whom brought immense joy to his life. He is predeceased by his brother Paul Spofford.
A graduate of University of Idaho, Bruce began his career at Continental Can Company, where he contributed to the engineering and design of beverage can ends. In the 1960s, he joined Boeing in Huntsville, Alabama, as a Loads Engineer during the historic Apollo era, working on space launch vehicles including the Saturn V rocket that would carry humankind to the moon.
Bruce's engineering journey continued at Westinghouse, where he played a vital role in the development of nuclear energy around the world. His expertise and leadership took him across the globe-to Japan, France, Switzerland, and beyond-where he was involved in the design and construction of nuclear reactors and helped pioneer technology for handling nuclear fuel, including being awarded a patent for his design work.
After retiring from engineering, Bruce turned his focus to the family business, Justifacts, where he was instrumental in its growth and success. He cherished the camaraderie of his Justifacts family and remained active in the company for more than 21 years, officially retiring in 2018.
In his retirement, Bruce found joy in the quiet pursuits that reflected his inquisitive mind and love of detail. He was an avid reader, a passionate numismatist, and enjoyed the daily challenge of a good Sudoku puzzle.
Bruce will be remembered for his brilliant mind, humble nature, sharp sense of humor, and steadfast devotion to his family. His legacy of patience, curiosity, integrity, and love will continue to inspire all who were fortunate to know him.
