Barbara Mattaliano (nee Engelhardt)

Barbara (Barb) Mattaliano, 89, passed away peacefully on September 1, 2025, surrounded by family. She was born on January 1, 1936, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin and was the oldest child of John and Frances Englehardt. She has two brothers, Robert (Kay) and Thomas (the late Amy Jo) and was predeceased by her sister Carol. She lived a life full of love, faith and family.

Barbara is survived by her devoted husband of 68 years, Alfred (Al) Mattaliano, with whom she shared a lifetime of love and adventure. Together they raised three beloved children: Mary Ann Fultz (William), Al Mattaliano Jr. (Molly Noland), and Lynn Kingsbury (Tom). She was also a proud grandmother to Thomas Kingsbury Jr., Janine Kingsbury, Michael Fultz (Lauren Krohn), Valerie Cotter (Kevin), Max Kingsbury (Colleen Dennis), Stephanie Fulks (Adam), Emily Mattaliano, Cara Stone (Robbie), and Katherine Kingsbury, as well as a great-grandmother to Sophia Fulks and Liam Cotter.

Barb had an eye for style, fashion and interior decorating. During her years at Marquette University, she modeled and hosted fashion shows. Throughout her life, Barb was known as an impeccable dresser. Barb also met the love of her life at Marquette. At a fraternity party where Al was playing the piano, Barb was asked by Al to turn the pages of the sheet music for him. The rest is history.

Barb was a loyal and devoted wife, and she supported her husband as they moved frequently for his jobs at Delco Electronics. Barb excelled in her role as hostess to the GM dealers and their wives on their incentive trips around the world, including itineraries in France, China, Australia and New Zealand. With her excellent eye for quality, Barb led the shopping expeditions that discovered beautiful treasures, many of which were gifted to her lucky children.

A devout Catholic, Barb had a vast knowledge of the saints and their feast days, which she enjoyed sharing with her family. She also had a special devotion to the Blessed Virgin Mary. Her trip to Medjugorje and witnessing the miracles happening there, was one of her life's highlights.

Perhaps Barb's greatest joy came from time spent with her children and grandchildren, especially during her pool parties at Crystal Tree, and the family's annual trips to Green Lake, Wisconsin.

Barb will be remembered for her kindness, her faith, and most of all, her unwavering love for her family. Her legacy of devotion, joy, and beauty will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.

Visitation will be held Thursday, September 11, 2025 from 10:15AM to 11:00AM at St. Damian Catholic Church, 5250 155th St, Oak Forest, IL, followed by Mass at 11:00 AM.
