Stephen J. Mattaliano Jr., known to all as Steve, passed away peacefully on June 13, 2023, surrounded by his loving family. Born on April 26, 1928, in
Mattapan, Massachusetts, Steve was a kind and selfless man who touched the lives of many throughout his long and fulfilling life.
Steve was the devoted husband of the late Ellen M. (Doherty) Mattaliano, whom he married in 1956 and shared 60 wonderful years with. He was the loving son of the late Stephen Sr. and Caroline (Rocco) Mattaliano and the caring brother of Gerard Mattaliano and the late Barbara Murphy, Joseph Mattaliano, William Mattaliano, and Carolyn Melendy.
As a dedicated father, Steve is survived by his children Ellen McCarthy and her husband Michael of Hanover, Stephen M. Mattaliano and his wife Dawn of Milton, and Donna M. Cullinan and her husband John of East Bridgewater. He was a doting Grampa to Danielle and her husband Daniel of New Hampshire, Jillian Tham and her husband Calvin of Hanover, Colin McCarthy of Montana, Amanda Cullinan of West Bridgewater, Kerry Cullinan and her fiancé Steven StOurs of
Biddeford, Maine, Carly McCarthy of Melrose, and Shea Cullinan of East Bridgewater. Steve also had the joy of being a Great Grampa to Kali Cullinan, Lincoln Gerardo, Leila Tham, Siena Gerardo, and Asher Tham. He is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews.
Steve attended Boston University and later used his knowledge and expertise to teach insurance classes. He was the proud owner of M. Clifton Edson and Son Inc. Insurance Agency in East Bridgewater for over 40 years. Steve also served his country as a Corporal in the US Army Infantry.
Throughout his life, Steve had a passion for the outdoors and enjoyed hunting, fishing, and golfing. He loved spending time on his pontoon boat and traveling with friends. He was an active member of his community, serving as the past president of the Kiwanis Club for over 50 years, on the building committee for St. Elizabeth's Church and the Parish Council, and on the building committee for the Old Colony YMCA.
Steve's loving and kind nature was evident in his commitment to his family, friends, and community. He was a selfless man who always put others first and left a lasting impact on those who were fortunate enough to know him.
As we remember and celebrate the life of Stephen J. Mattaliano Jr., let us honor his legacy of love, kindness, and selflessness. His memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
