Barbara Alice McCune, 92, of Chanute, Kansas, passed away at Credo Senior Living in Chanute, Kansas, on Tuesday, August 27, 2024.
Barbara was born on February 11, 1932, to Harold and Blanche (Endsley) Neptune. Barbara graduated from Chanute High School with the class of 1949. She then attended Chanute Junior College, earning her Associate degree in 1951. On June 15, 1952, Barbara married her high school sweetheart, Larry Lamont "Monty" McCune. The two were married 65 years before his passing in January, 2018.
Barbara was a member of Westview Southern Baptist Church since 1968. Barbara was very active in the church and served in multiple capacities. She taught Sunday School, taught Vacation Bible School, directed the children's choir, directed the adult choir, served as church clerk, and played the organ for 50 years. In addition, Barbara participated in the orchestra for several Chanute Community Theatre productions.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Larry Lamont "Monty" McCune, son, Mark McCune, parents, and brother, Robert Neptune.
Her memory will carry on with her daughters, Sandy and husband Rob Phillips (Chanute, KS), and Sharon and husband David Byers (Lee's Summit, MO), her daughter-in-law, Carolyn McCune (Dallas, TX), her seven grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren.
Memorial contributions can be made in Barbara's name to Westview Southern Baptist Church.
Barbara will be laid to rest on Saturday, September 14 at 9:30 am next to her husband in a private family burial.
Visitation for family and friends will be held September 14 at 10:30 am at Westview Southern Baptist Church, with a memorial service to follow at 11:30 am. Lunch will be provided to attendees.
Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Countryside Funeral Home.
