In Loving Memory of Barbara McLemore
It is with deep sorrow that I share the passing of our beloved mother, Barbara S McLemore, who left us on Friday, October 3 rd , 2025 in Ocala, Florida. She was s source of unconditional love, strength, and kindness throughout her life. Barbara was born February 16th, 1945 to Kenneth Herschel Stephenson and Mary Nicholson Stephenson in Ocala, Florida where she was raised and lived her entire life. Barbara attended Ocala High School, graduating in the class of 1963.
Barbara is survived by her two sons, David Haslam, his wife, Tammi Haslam and her grandson Gavin Haslam of Ocala, Florida and her son Scott Haslam, his wife, Sarah Haslam and her grandson, Duke Haslam of San Antonio, Texas. Barbara cared deeply for her sons, but her source of joy and fulfillment later in life was her grandsons Gavin and Duke. We will all carry her memory in our hearts forever.
Barbara’s Legacy of Love and Joy
Barbara was a phenomenal cook with a deep love for Southern cuisine. She found joy in preparing meals for her family and friends, especially during holidays and birthdays, when everyone’s favorite dishes were served to perfection—always in generous portions that left us full and grateful.
Her love for the Florida outdoors was boundless. Whether swimming, skiing, fishing, camping, horseback riding, canoeing, or simply spending time at the beach, Barbara embraced nature with enthusiasm. Some of our most cherished memories were made during vacations to Ormond Beach, Daytona Beach, Flagler Beach, and “The Rocks”—a unique stretch of coquina-covered shoreline now known as Washington Oaks Gardens State Park in Flagler County.
Barbara spent countless joyful days skiing with loved ones on Pegram Lake. She also had a passion for music and dancing, often surrounded by friends and laughter. A dedicated bowler, she was a member of several leagues over the years and proudly rolled multiple perfect 300 games.
Her creativity shone through in everything she touched. Barbara had a magical way of decorating, sprinkling “fairy dust” in her yard and transforming holidays and birthdays into unforgettable celebrations. A true Pioneer Woman ahead of her time, she brought beauty and warmth into every space she entered.
Barbara was deeply committed to her community. She volunteered tirelessly, contributing to the PTA, local nonprofits, hospitals, and serving for many years as a member—and President—of the Pioneer Garden Club. Her dedication to helping others was a lifelong mission.
Above all, Barbara was a remarkable caretaker, always putting family and friends first. She created lasting memories in Ocala, Melrose, Oxford, and Flemington, Florida, and was a proud supporter of the Florida Gators, cheering them on with spirit and pride.
Memorial service will be held on Saturday, October 18 th at 10am.
