With profound sadness, we announce the passing of Leon McLemore, 65, of Bridgeton, NJ, who departed this life on June 10, 2025. In recent months, Leon unexpectedly faced serious medical challenges with grace and unwavering strength. His courage, optimism, and enduring smile through hardship served as a testament to his resilient spirit and unshakable faith.
Born on December 20, 1959, in Bridgeton, NJ, Leon was the beloved son of the late Wallace McLemore Sr. and Rosa Mae Cox. From a young age, he displayed a love for sports, which continued throughout his life. He attended Deptford High School, where he excelled as an athlete in both football and wrestling. After his junior year, he chose a path of service and honor by enlisting in the United States Army in 1978. He served his country proudly for four years and was honorably discharged.
Leon was a devoted father to three children: Vincent Dewayne Pierce, Shatia Nicole McLemore, and Stephanie Renae Morgan. He was a proud grandfather to nine grandchildren and a cherished uncle to a host of nieces and nephews who loved him dearly.
In 2016, Leon retired from Bailey's Sanitation Services, LLC. In retirement, he found joy in life's simple pleasures-fishing, cheering on his favorite sports teams, and spending time with loved ones. A lifelong fan of the Philadelphia Eagles, one of Leon's proudest moments was witnessing their triumphant win at Super Bowl LII-a memory he treasured deeply.
Leon's life was one marked by quiet strength, deep love for family, and a legacy of resilience. He will be missed beyond measure but remembered with gratitude, honor, and enduring affection.
He leaves behind a loving legacy through his surviving siblings: Gwendolyn Collier Grandi, Curtis Wilson, Jeanette Webb, Bonnie Goodwin, Rose Mary McLemore, Richard McLemore, and Katherine Speights-each of whom will carry his memory with love and pride.
Leon was preceded in death by his parents, Wallace McLemore Sr. and Rosa Mae Cox, as well as siblings Wallace McLemore Jr., Jerome McLemore, and Floretta McLemore.
Funeral Services will be held at 11AM on Friday, June 27th at the PADGETT FUNERAL HOME, 1107 State Highway 77, Upper Deerfield Twp. Friends will be received at the funeral home from 10AM to 11AM prior to the service. Interment will take place at Overlook Cemetery, 100 Overlook Drive, Bridgeton, following the services.
