Barbara Kay O'Neil, 85, of Houghton Lake passed away on Wednesday October 1, 2025 at home with her loving family by her side.

Barbara was born on May 22, 1940 in Saginaw, Michigan to Edwin and Winifred"Lottie"(Wiersinski) Halasinski . Barbara grew up in Saginaw and graduated from Saginaw St. Andrews High School. On October 10, 1959 in Saginaw, Barbara was married to John Michael "Mike" ONeil. She worked as a Medical Assistant for doctor offices in the Saginaw area and later she spent10 years as a personal secretary at Saginaw Valley State University from which she retired. Barbara was a very active member of St. James Catholic Church, where she was a member of the Ladies Group, and took Eucharist to home bound church members. Barbara enjoyed being in her flower garden and was a member of the Houghton Lake Garden Club. She was also a member of the Golden Babushka Club. Barbara's special love was spending time with her family and especially the grandchildren.

Surviving Barbara O'Neil are her loving husband of 65 years, John Michael "Mike" O'Neil of Houghton Lake; two daughters, Kelly O'Neil of Gaylord and Kristine Brady of Petoskey; son, John O'Neil, Jr. of Gaylord; seven grandchildren, Luke, Kristen, Cole, Katelyn, Kara, Shea, and Bailey; seven great grandchildren, Ada, Zoe, Finnley, Marlon, Chad, Brady, and one on the way; as well as several nieces and nephews. Barbara was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Alice and Faye; and one brother, Peter.

Mass of Christian Burial for Barbara Kay O'Neil will be conducted from St. James Catholic Church with Fr. Michael Steltenkamp SJ officiating. Time of the service is pending. Interment will be in Crestview Cemetery, Markey Township. Visitation will be held the hour before the service St. James Catholic Church. In Lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in memory of Barbara are asked to be directed to St. James Catholic Church. Christler Funeral Home, Prudenville Chapel is serving the family.
