Barbara Lynn Raines, affectionately known as "Nanny," passed away on August 14, 2025, in Spartanburg, South Carolina, at the age of 72. Born on March 28, 1953, in Cowpens, SC, she was the daughter of the late Fred Samuel Black and Omie Etrulia Kilgore Black.
Barbara lived a life devoted to caring for others, with compassion and warmth in everything she did. Her nurturing spirit created a home filled with love, where everyone who crossed her threshold felt like family.
Throughout her life, Barbara poured her heart into taking care of those around her. Whether it was ensuring there was a hot meal served or having a welcoming home. She found joy in the simplest of pleasures, from watching her beloved soap operas like "The Bold and The Beautiful" and "The Young and The Restless" to enjoying adventures in Cherokee, NC. Her love for "Betty Boop" memorabilia brought a smile to everyone, as it reflected her fun personality.
Barbara leaves behind a loving family who cherished her deeply. She is survived by her husband, Randy Raines, who stood by her side through thick and thin. Her legacy continues through her sons, Carmon (Tammie) Kirby and Anthony (Michelle) Kirby, whose lives were shaped by her support and guidance. Barbara was a proud grandmother to Tiffany Kirby, Heather (Paul) Burress, Keith Kirby, Michael (Lucy) Apple, Cheyanne (Grady Davis) Kirby, and Angel (Nate) Nichols. As a great-grandmother, she loved them all, Aiden Albright, Lilly Burress, Madalyn Hutnik, Aubrey Hutnik, Kasper Kirby, Emma Apple, Athena Apple, Ivy Kirby, and Nate Nichols, Jr.
Barbara is also remembered by her brothers, Samuel Black, Bobby Everett, and Autry Black. Her "fur baby" companion, Molly. She was preceded in death by her parents and siblings, including Brenda Brown, Fred Black, Wayne Black, and Diane Raines.
The visitation will be held from 11:30 AM - 12:45, Tuesday, August 19, 2025, Floyd's Greenlawn Chapel, 2075 E. Main St., Spartanburg, SC 29307. The funeral service will follow at 1:00 PM in Floyd's Greenlawn Chapel with burial in Sunset Memorial Park, 1955 Cannons Campground Rd., Spartanburg, SC 29307. Services will be conducted by The Rev. Tommy Comer.
Barbara Lynn Raines will always be remembered as Nanny — a loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, and friend in the hearts of those she touched. May her memory inspire us all to carry her love, generosity, and unwavering care for others.
