Barbara Renico

Barbara "Barbie" Renico (née Abbey), age 80, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her husband and children on January 20, 2026, in The Villages, Florida. Born on May 17, 1945, in Flint, Michigan, she lived a life marked by dedication to her family, her career, and the many friendships she cultivated along the way.
Barbie spent over three decades as a senior Customer Service Representative with Consumer's Energy in Saginaw, Michigan. Her commitment to excellence earned her numerous awards throughout her career. She was appointed to a prestigious statewide committee that collaborated with Rockwell Corporation to develop virtual call centers across Michigan-an innovative initiative at the time. In recognition of her outstanding performance and professionalism, she was selected as one of only five customer service representatives company-wide permitted to work from home during the final five years of her tenure.
Beyond her professional accomplishments, Barbie was known for her warmth and kindness. Her beautiful, ready smile could light up any room; her hugs were legendary; and her laugh brought joy to all who heard it. She had an extraordinary ability to make everyone feel like a friend. Whether through a shared conversation or a simple act of kindness, she left lasting impressions on those around her.
Barbie cherished time spent walking the beaches in Florida and Aruba collecting shells. She also loved the outdoors walking her beloved dog, Judge. These daily walks became more than just routine-they were opportunities for connection. She made countless new friends along the way and brought joy into their lives with each encounter.
She is survived by her devoted husband of 59 years, Stephen; their son Stephen (Janie) of Dearborn, MI; daughter Leslie Friend (Ian) of Wells, UK; brother Dennis of Tampa, FL; sister-in-law Beth Bader (Tom) of The Villages, FL; and second mother Emily Abbey of Belleview, FL. Barbie was also a proud grandmother to Yolanda Wade, Olivia Renico, Dominic Renico, Francesca Renico-all of Dearborn-and Jackson Martin of Plano, TX. Her legacy continues through three great-grandchildren who brought immense joy into her life.
She was preceded in death by her father Vernon Abbey; mother Virginia Abbey (née Donaldson); and sister Linda Abbey.
A celebration of Barbie's life will be held at a later date in The Villages to honor the love and light she shared so freely.
