Obituary published on Legacy.com by Timothy P. Doyle Funeral Home, Inc. on Oct. 1, 2025.
It is with deep sorrow and enduring love that we announce the passing of Arnette Schmidt, a devoted wife, beloved mother, cherished grandmother, and faithful friend. Arnette passed away peacefully at her home on July 15, 2025, surrounded by her loving family.
Arnette Schmidt, 82, of Wappingers Falls, NY was born on April 26, 1943 in Gloucester City, New Jersey to the late William and Pauline Taylor.
Arnette lived a life marked by kindness, compassion, and quiet strength. She was the heart of her family - a loving wife to her husband, Robert, and a devoted mother to her children, Stephen Schmidt of Brooklyn, Heidi Mills of Poughkeepsie, son-in-law Juan Espinoza (Poughkeepsie), and Kristi Gibbons (Mike) of Virginia, as well as to her grandchildren: Taylor Espinoza, Ryan Espinoza, Colin Gibbons, Ava Gibbons, and Georgia Gibbons. She is also survived by sisters Paulette Eckhart (Rand) of Florida and Debbie Eller (Tony) of New Jersey as well as many nieces, nephews, and friends she treated as family.
Arnette's greatest joy was her family, especially her five grandchildren. She treasured every moment spent with them, whether it was a shared laugh, a warm hug, or simply being present in their lives. Her gentle guidance, warm heart, and nurturing spirit left a lasting impression that will live on through each of them.
Those who knew Arnette will remember her as someone who always put others before herself. She gave without asking, loved without condition, and made every person she met feel seen and cared for. Her home was a haven of love and warmth, and her presence brought peace and comfort to all around her.
She was active in her church (Poughkeepsie United Methodist Church - PUMC) throughout her life. She taught Sunday school, was on the visitation committee, volunteered at Second Hand Rose, delivered food for Meals on Wheels, and was involved with the Church Bazaar. She also participated in the Home Bureau supporting the New Hackensack Fire Department.
Arnette's hobbies included gardening, enjoying the birds that frequented her feeder, reading, traveling, crafting, baking, and cooking.
Arnette's memory will be forever held in the hearts of her husband, children, grandchildren, and the many others whose lives were enriched by her love.
Though we grieve her loss deeply, we also celebrate a life beautifully lived, a life of grace, quiet strength, and boundless love.
In lieu of flowers her family requests donations be sent to Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, P.O. Box 27106, New York, NY 10087-7706 whose compassionate staff supported her and her family for many years.
Arrangements will be provided by Timothy Doyle Funeral Home 371 Hooker Ave. Poughkeepsie New York 12603. A Celebration of Life will be held at Poughkeepsie United Methodist Church, 2381 New Hackensack Road,
Poughkeepsie, NY 12603 on Saturday, July 26, 2025 at 10 am. A light repast will be provided immediately following the service in Fellowship Hall.
