Barbara Ann Wait, 76, of Veedersburg IN, passed away at her residence 3:30 PM Thursday November 28, 2024 with her family at her side.
Barbara was born February 24, 1948 in Danville IL, the daughter of William and Eva M. (Newkirk) Smith; her mom’s second marriage was to Steve Abernathy. Barbara shared 38 years of life with her long-time companion Gene Lewis; he preceded her in death February 26, 2022.
She is also preceded in death by her parents and a brother, William Leroy “Willie” Smith.
Surviving family include her daughter, Yvonne Brown; sister Melva Smith; brother, Allen Smith, step-son James A Lewis; all of Veedersburg. Three grandchildren, Spencer (Lauren) Marxmiller, Jordan (Kyla) Hollingsworth, Ashton Brown; four great-grandchildren, Owen, Lane & Riggs Marxmiller; Hensli Hollingsworth; and the fifth great grandchild on the way.
Barbara had worked for many years as a waitress at Benjamin’s along with other area restaurants. She enjoyed being at home with her family and especially enjoyed helping Yvonne with her boys as they were growing up.
Funeral service will be 2:00 PM Monday December 2, 2024 at Dickerson Funeral Home in Veedersburg with Pastor Greg McDonald officiating. Visitation will begin at 12:00 Noon Monday at the funeral home and continue until time of service at 2:00 PM. Burial will be at Mt Hope Cemetery in Covington.
