James Franklin Ramey Jr, 88, of Attica IN passed away on February 14th, 2026.
He was born on May 19th, 1937, to James Franklin Ramey Sr and Nina Marie (Denton) Ramey.
James graduated from Perrysville High School in 1955 and thereafter lived the majority of his life in Fountain County. He enlisted in the United States Army in 1961 and served 3 years, followed by service in the United States Marine Corps Reserve as a Vietnam War veteran.
James farmed most of his life, particularly raising angus cattle. He enjoyed being outdoors, identifying various trees and wildlife as a hobby. He also enjoyed reading, and he had a great sense of humor.
James was married for several years to Mertie (Miller) until her death in 1996. James then fell in love with and married Deanna (Peno) and they enjoyed 28 years together.
James will be sadly missed by wife Deanna, stepsons; John, Daniel (Teresa) and Stephen Joseph (Carla) Prefountain, stepdaughters; Julie Anne Jarmusch and Jean Marie (Johnny) Cox, grandchildren Jeffrey and Tracey Ramey, 4 great-grandchildren, brother Robert Ramey and sister in law Ellen Ramey.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Mertie, son Jeff Ramey, brother Duane Ramey and sister in law Judith Ramey.
Visitation will be held at Dickerson Funeral Home, 303 N. Main Street in Veedersburg IN, on Friday, February 20th, 2026 at 10:00AM followed by a funeral service at 11:00AM, officiated by Pastor Noel Whiteman, accompanied by military honors. Burial will follow at Coal Creek Cemetery in Covington IN.
