Barbara Walsh Obituary
Obituary published on Legacy.com by Louis C. Galzerano Funeral Home, Inc. - Philadelphia on Feb. 26, 2025.
With hearts full of love and gratitude for the time we shared, we announce the sudden passing of Barbara A. Walsh(nee Slovan) on February 24, 2025, surrounded by her devoted family.
Barbara was born in Long Beach, California, but it was in Philadelphia that she built a beautiful life, raising her cherished family alongside her beloved husband, James Walsh. Together, they shared 53 years of love and devotion, creating a home filled with warmth, laughter, and unconditional support. Summers in Avalon, NJ, became treasured moments where memories were made, sandcastles were built, and the sound of the ocean echoed the love she poured into those around her.
A mother beyond compare, Barbara's love knew no bounds. She is survived by her children, each of whom carries forward her legacy of kindness and compassion: Cecelia Kihm (John), Kathleen Walsh Falcone, Patricia Crossley (Robert), Seamus Walsh (Kaylin), Mary Clement (Joseph) and Elizabeth Pinizzotto (Joe).
She was a devoted grandmother to 19 grandchildren, each of whom she lovingly cared for, especially during their earliest years, a proud great-grandmother to 10 great-grandchildren, as well as an aunt to many nieces and nephews finding immense joy in watching them grow.
Barbara was a guiding light not only to her family but also to the many young women she mentored through her leadership roles in the Girl Scouts and Camp Fire Girls. She led with love, nurturing strength, confidence, and a spirit of adventure in those she guided.
Barbara's kindness extended to everyone she met-she was a woman who truly listened with her heart. Whether sharing in life's joys or offering comfort during hardships, she was always present, always compassionate. Her playful spirit shone through in her love for Bingo and casino slot machines, where she found joy in both the game and the friendships it fostered.
She is also survived by her brother-in-law, Thomas Walsh, and sister-in-law, Linda Reilly. She now joins her late husband, James Walsh, and her beloved siblings, Michael P. Slovan, Thomas Reilly, Magdeline Oldenburg, and Sharon Liss, in eternal peace.
Barbara's family finds comfort in knowing that her legacy of love, laughter, and kindness will live on in all who knew her. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you honor Barbara's spirit by saying a prayer, performing an act of kindness, or making a donation to the PFC Johnny Kihm Memorial Fund, a cause close to her heart. (PFC Johny Kihm Memorial Fund, 1835 Market St., Philadelphia PA 19103-2968).
Barbara will be profoundly missed but forever cherished. May her kindness continue to inspire us all.
Relatives and friends are invited to call on Saturday, March 1st from 9 to 10am at the Maternity BVM Church, 9220 Old Bustleton Avenue, Phila PA 19115. Her Funeral Mass will follow at 10am. Interment Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, Cheltenham, PA.
