Barbara Jean (McGuire) Warf, 97, of New Albany, Indiana, peacefully passed away on Saturday, September 20, 2025. Barbara was a dedicated educator, having spent 30 years as a teacher for the New Albany - Floyd County School Corporation, primarily at Silver Street Elementary. Outside of the classroom, Barbara was a long-time member of Central Christian Church in New Albany, as well as involved in Tri Kappa, Fort Nightly and the Kentuckiana Herb Society, all of which meant so much to her.
Barbara was the daughter of Kirby and Treva (Hamilton) McGuire. Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 57 years, Charles Emerson Warf; her cherished daughter, Carrie Jo Warf; and her sister, Jody Rolf and her husband, Clyde.
Barbara is survived by her son, Chuck Warf, and his wife, Julia. She also leaves behind her sisters-in-law, Faye Foutch (James), Karen Jane Quillen (Jack), brother-in-law, Larry Warf, and a loving extended family that includes nieces Tami, Susan, Sandy, and Sharon, as well as nephews Todd and Jo Bill . Each of them will remember Barbara fondly.
Barbara came into this life in Ashland, Kentucky on May 21, 1928. She was joined on her path by her cherished younger sister, Jody on February 8, 1930. She always loved teaching and attended Eastern Kentucky University, where she met the love of her life, Charles Emerson Warf. Her love for life and nurturing ways were always on display. A good example of this, was how she took in a teenage sister-in-law shortly after getting married. Just setting up a home with Emerson, she invited Faye, who was eight years her junior, to come live with them. A second example of this was when she let her younger sister, Jody, and her daughter, into their household
She and Emerson moved to New Albany, where she was involved in many good works, community activities and was even named Outstanding Teach of the Year. As a mother, she raised two children with a social conscious, and as a wife, she was always supportive.
A visitation will be held at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals & Receptions, located at 3309 Ballard Lane, New Albany, on Thursday, September 25, 2025 from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. with a funeral service commemorating Barbara's life taking place at 6:00 p.m. She will be laid to rest at Indiana Veteran's Memorial Cemetery in Madison, Indiana.
