Barry Deroze Obituary

Published by Legacy on Jun. 18, 2024.
Barry DeRoze February 22,1944 - June 13, 2024
Barry Clyde DeRoze, age 80 died peacefully at home surrounded by his family on June 13, 2024. He was born on February 22, 1944 in Cincinnati, Ohio to Louis and Helen DeRoze. He had just celebrated his 61st wedding anniversary with wife, Virginia Louise DeRoze. They met during a summer chemistry class at the Miami University of Ohio where they both attended undergraduate college. Barry went on to achieve a Master's Degree at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. They lived in Connecticut, California, Maryland, Hungary, and finally moved to Leesburg, Virginia to be near their daughters and husbands: Lynne DeRoze Avdellas, Nick Avdellas, Dianne DeRoze, and Steve Shebest. Barry had a distinguished career serving the Department of Defense in both the public and private sector. Barry DeRoze took great interest in the careers and aspirations of others, serving many as a mentor and role model. During his retirement, like his dad, he enjoyed playing golf. He also enjoyed times with his kids and his grandkids in Bethesda, Williamsburg, and Cacapon, West Virginia. He wanted to be remembered as a loving husband, caring father and lover of sports. He will be remembered for those things but also for his unwavering patience, his ability to always see the possibilities, his attention to every detail, his amazing memory, and the wisdom he always seemed to have. He loved his pond, political discussions, chocolate malts, the Yankees, and the Dallas Cowboys. He was also an amazing grandfather to Will Avdellas, Kate McLaren, Jocelyn and Sam Shebest. A private memorial will be held with his immediate family in the coming weeks. May his memory be eternal, may the Yankees win the World Series, and may the Cowboys win the Super Bowl.
