Barry Larkin Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Parsell Funeral Homes-Atkins-Lodge Chapel - Lewes on Jan. 19, 2026.
Barry Edward Larkin, age 72, of Lewes, DE, died on January 3, 2026, after a courageous battle with leukemia.

Barry was born on October 31, 1953, in Baltimore, MD, the son of the late William E. Larkin, Jr. and Evelyn K. Larkin. He graduated from Baltimore Polytechnic Institute in 1971. He earned his bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering at the University of Maryland and held his Professional Engineer License.

He built a successful career in the corrugating machinery industry where he was respected for his knowledge, integrity, and dedication to satisfying the customer. One of his favorite sayings was: "Everything comes in a box!"

On May 8, 1982, Barry married the girl-next-door and love of his life, Maureen Virginia Maloney, in Baltimore, Maryland. They were married for over four decades. They shared several passions including traveling, SCUBA diving, motorcycling, skydiving, piloting small planes, and simply being together.

Barry and Maureen raised their daughters, Grace and Gail, in the family-friendly Timonium, MD community of Springlake/Coachford. Barry was known as the "Cool Dad" to the kids in the neighborhood because he was so much fun and as "Mr. Wonderful" to his neighbors because he was always ready to lend a hand.

Barry had a lifelong enthusiasm for planes, trains, and automobiles. He enjoyed NASCAR and was the proud owner of a 2010 Chevy Volt electric car (#63 off the production line). He logged over 2,000 sport parachute jumps and was also a Certified Flight Instructor (CFI).

He was a proud member of the Center for Civil War Photography and enjoyed exploring Civil War battlefields with fellow enthusiasts as they searched for the locations of photographs that were taken during the Civil War. He also loved Irish history and generously shared his knowledge and time at the Irish American Museum in Baltimore.

Of all of his activities, he most enjoyed his retirement job as the senior train conductor on the Northern Central Railway in New Freedom, PA. He loved sharing his knowledge and enthusiasm for trains and history with the passengers as they "rode the rails."

Barry is survived by his devoted wife, Maureen M. Larkin; his beloved daughters, Grace Evelyn Boenning (Matthew J. Boenning) and Gail Larkin Crowther (William A. Crowther IV) and his brother, David E. Larkin. He is also survived by his sisters-in-law, Sharon Larkin, Eileen M. Pumphrey (Robert Pumphrey), and Yvonne Maloney; and his nieces and nephews, Jennifer Larkin, Katherine Rosa (Kyle), Christopher Larkin (Amanda), Joseph Koullas (Sandy), James Miller, and Michael Larkin (Kirsten).

In addition to his parents, Barry was predeceased by his brother, William E. "Bud" Larkin III, and his brother-in-law, Kevin F. Maloney.

A Celebration of Life will be held in Baltimore later this year.
