Barry A. Lura, 73 of Hawley, MN passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, October 16, 2024, at Sanford Medical Center, Fargo, ND.
Barry Allen Lura was born April 12, 1951, to Chester and Shirley (Barry) Lura in Moorhead, MN, and grew up near Rollag, MN. He was baptized and confirmed at Rollag Lutheran Church and graduated from Hawley High School in 1969. He went on to attend the University of Minnesota, Crookston and NDSU before being drafted into the US Army. He served from 1970-1972 with a tour in Vietnam.
Following his service, Barry worked construction and farmed in the Rollag area and later sold insurance. He married Betty Hogetvedt in Las Vegas, NV on March 28, 1976. They resided on the farm and raised their three sons, Shawn, Josh, and Tracy.
Barry continued to farm and work for Crop Hail Management until 1990. He then made the decision to rent out his farmland and work full time for Great American Insurance until his retirement in 2020.
Barry was a lifelong member of the American Legion and the VFW. In 2003, he and Betty moved to Turtle Lake and enjoyed the outdoors. Barry also enjoyed hunting and fishing, snowmobiling, and golfing. Most of all, he enjoyed spending time with, and being the #1 fan for his children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and extended family.

Barry is survived by his wife, Betty; sons, Shawn, Josh (Jess), and Tracy (Jess); grandchildren, Tanis (Dillan) Praske, Ariel, April, Jay (Taya Neros) Chase, and Hudson Lura; great-grandchildren, Kelby and Daxton; sister-in-law, Lois Sullivan (Rod Noble); many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews; and sisters, Peggy (Craig) Halvorson, and Patty (Fran) Bedore.
He was preceded in death by his parents; mother and father-in-law, Adolph and Medora Hogetvedt; sister-in-law, Carol Saker; and brothers-in-law, Leo and Ernie Hogetvedt, and Lyle Saker.
A visitation will be held on Thursday, October 24, 2024, from 6-7 PM with a prayer service beginning at 7:00 at Wright Funeral Home, Hawley, MN.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, October 25, 2024, at 11:00 AM with a visitation one hour before the service at Rollag Lutheran Church, Rollag, MN.
