It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of Basal Jules McFarlain. Memorial service will be held on Saturday August 20, 2022, in the Miguez Funeral Home Chapel at 3:00 p.m. Visitation for friends and family will begin at 2:00 p.m. and resume after the service until 5:00 p.m.
He was born on January 18, 1954, to Audrey Gatte McFarlain and Erwin McFarlain. On August 15, 2022, the Lord called him home. He was born of humble beginnings and grew up in Evangeline, La with his 7 brothers. He was a man of faith and had a strong Catholic upbringing. He was a direct descendant of A.D. McFarlain, the first settler and prominent businessman who was a key figure in building the city of Jennings, Louisiana. He went to Iota High School where he was gifted in academics and excelled in sports. He was a star athlete playing basketball, his favorite but he was also a track star and played football.
He was the father of five children, Danielle, Steven, Shane, Evelina and Elizabeth McFarlain. He had 18 grandchildren. He had a vibrant character, a vivid imagination and a charismatic personality and led a very colorful life filled with many adventures. He left a lasting impression on everyone he met. He marched to the beat of his own drum. He had a beautiful singing voice. He was a great cook. He traveled far and wide living in Minnesota and Tennessee before returning home to Louisiana. He looked up to and respected his brothers very much.
He loved his mother immensely and was very close to her heart. He loved his children and was the best father he could be. He was adored fiercely by his children. Though life was not always kind to him he made the most of every day through good times and bad. He embraced life and always had a joke or a story to tell along with a strong cup of community coffee. He was strong willed and determined. He was a fighter up to the very end. He will forever be remembered in our hearts.
