Ben L. Mimms, 70, of West Lafayette, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, February 25, 2025. He was born on April 5, 1954, in Danville, IL, to Martha (Miller) Penrod and the late George Mimms.
Ben graduated from Danville High School. He married Teresa (Terri) Orr in August 1975, in Danville, IL. He enlisted in the Army and during his service he attained the rank of Sargent, serving in the First Cavalry division in Germany and Texas. Upon discharge, he graduated from both Danville Area Community College as well as Western Illinois University.
Ben began his career in Software Programming at TeePak in Danville, IL, before he and Terri moved to Lafayette in 1982. He then joined Lafayette Life Insurance Company as a Systems Programmer. Throughout his career he programmed systems for Lafayette Life Insurance Company, Home Hospital, Emerson Electric, before ultimately ending up at Purdue University. Ben retired from Purdue University in 2006 after 20 years due to his declining health.
Ben was a devoted Christian and was an active member of Covenant Church in West Lafayette. He loved his small group and any time he got to spend with them.
Surviving is his daughter Rebecca A. Mimms and her mother Teresa K. Mimms, both of West Lafayette, IN, his sisters Cindy & Michele, mother-in-law Allora Orr and his dog JoJo. He was preceded by his father-in-law Russell Lyle Orr, half-sister Karen and very dear friends David & Shirley Eads.
Visitation will be from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm on Saturday, March 1, 2025 at Soller-Baker West Lafayette Chapel, 1184 Sagamore Parkway West in West Lafayette.
Graveside service at 1:30 pm on Saturday, March 1, 2025, at Tippecanoe Memory Gardens in West Lafayette, IN.
