Ben Hill Porter Jr.

Mr. Ben Hill Porter, Jr., 74, of Newnan, passed away Thursday, December 11, 2025, at the Haven Assisted Living Facility. He was born May 3, 1951, in Hawkinsville, GA., to the late Ben Hill Porter Sr. and Mary Ann Pate Porter.

Ben grew up in Hawkinsville, GA., and was a 1969 graduate of Hawkinsville High School. He went on to graduate from the University of Georgia and was an avid Bulldog fan for the rest of his life. Ben worked in the pharmaceutical field with companies like Eli Lilly and Eldercare. Ben moved to Newnan, GA., in 1988. He was a long-time member of Central Baptist Church in downtown.

Ben took pride in living a simple but good life. Most of all, he took pride in his son, Gavin. He attended every possible baseball practice or game Gavin played in or later coached. There was nothing Ben took more pride in than his relationship with his son. Ben's story would also not be complete without mentioning names like Jody Hand, Larry and Debbie Brown, Terrell Cooper, Mike Henry, Mike and Beverly Yeager, Mike Winslett, Tim Shelnutt, Stephen Brown, Charlotte Unzicker, and Rick Rowland.

The visitation is Thursday, December 18, 2025, from 5-8 pm at McKoon Funeral Home, 38 Jackson Street, Newnan, GA, 30263. Burial will be the following day, Friday, December 19th, 2025, at 1 pm at Orange Hill Cemetery in Hawkinsville, GA 31036, located at the intersection of 6th Street and Industrial Blvd. Rather than flowers, Gavin requests that you consider donating to The Haven for their Christmas Fund. Every Christmas, The Haven tries to raise some extra money for their staff around the holidays. To ensure that the donations can get to The Haven before Christmas time, you could either make a check payable to Gavin Porter or you could send money on Venmo to the username @GavinPorter1. All donations will be combined and ensured that they are delivered to the Haven this weekend.
