Benjamin Starinsky went with the Angels on March 10, 2023. He was at home in
Atkinson, NC when the Angels came calling. He had been under the wonderful care of the
Lower Cape Fear Hospice and of his family.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 39 years, Mary Mayo Starinsky in 2017.
He was born on April 16,1929 to the late George and Elizabeth (Baloonis) in Schuykill
County – Pottsville, PA.
Ben retired from the Coast Guard at the rank of Senior Chief E8 after 20 years of
service. He served on the Mendota in Wilmington and often spoke of Entering the bottom of the
world by crossing the Antarctic Circle aboard USCGC Burton Island.
He loved hiking, bike riding, dog training, gardening, history, woodwork along with Music
(He played the trombone most of his life) and dancing. He and Mary went square dancing often
and he sure could shuffle around the house doing the two-step! A man of many hobbies and
passions.
Ben is survived by Phyllis Hixson; James Hixson (Leigh Hixson) Katherine Dewhurst,
(John Dacuk); Jennifer Phelps(Allen Phelps); Patricia Giddings (Jon Giddings); also 9
Grandchildren, Steven Yopp (Mandy Marshall); Megahn Hixson (Myron Bess); Scott Hixson
(Katie Hixson); Samantha Rodriguez (Anthony Rodriguez); Kenneth Mack (Yvonne Mack);Ross
Mack; Bryan Cerasani (Jeanette Perez), Allison Hixson, Joshua Giddings; and 6 Great Grandchildren, Parker Hixson, Aleigha
Bess, Ellie Hixson, Colton Cerasani, S. Kenneth Mack, Adelaide Mack and many extended
family and friends.
Loved by so many, and in GG's (Ben) words, "Hey Mate! Love you much" "Adios, Au
Revoir, Auf Wiedersehn!"
