Benedict A. Brougham, 88, of Evansville, passed away Thursday, December 14, 2023 at his home. He was born August 19, 1935 in Evansville to the late Albert "Pappy" and Virginia Brougham.
Ben graduated from Memorial High School in 1953 and attended the University of Dayton. After college, he attended naval flight school and served in the Navy as a Lt. JG for five years. After service, he joined his father in Uncle Charlie's Meats which they operated for over 60 years. Ben was the founder of Flair Molded Plastics with his partner, James Peters, in 1971 and today his son, Bert, and daughter, Shannon, currently operate the business. Ben has been very active in the community and was a member of Good Shepherd Catholic Church. He was a member of Constellation Masonic Lodge #748, Hadi Shrine and Jesters. He was a past board member of the Evansville Country Club, last surviving member of the 407 Club and a lifetime member of the Knights of the Wrong Table.
Ben is survived by his wife of 64 years, Joan; daughters, Colleen Parks, Shannon (Bill) Nally, Jeannine (Jerry) Durchholz and Denise Fry; son, Bert (Chicca) Brougham; grandchildren, Erika, Courtney, Zachary, Heather, Marty, Jake, Max, Molly, Meghan, Josh, Rachael, AJ, Luke and Nico; eight great-grandchildren; and stepmother, Juanita Brougham.
In addition to his parents, Ben was preceded in death by his sister Gayle Cannon.
Visitation will be from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, December 20, 2023 at Ziemer Funeral Home East Chapel, 800 S. Hebron Ave., Evansville where the Hadi Shrine will have a Noble Walkthrough at 5:45 p.m. and the Scottish Rite at 6:05 p.m. followed by a Memorial Service by the Masonic Lodge. Visitation will continue from 9:30 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. Thursday, December 21 at Good Shepherd Catholic Church, 2301 N. Stockwell Rd., Evansville. A Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 10:00 a.m. at the church with Fathers Ted Tempel and Jack Durchholz officiating.
Burial will be at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery where the Retired Veteran's Memorial Club will conduct graveside services.
Memorial contributions may be made to Dan Scism Scholarship Foundation, 420 NW Fifth Street, Box 3, Evansville, IN 47708, Hadi Shrine Crippled Children's Hospital, Hadi Shrine Temple, 6 Walnut Street, Evansville, IN 47708 or Reitz Memorial High School, 1500 Lincoln Avenue, Evansville, Indiana, 47714.

So very sorry to hear of Ben´s passing. My Father and I shared a row with him and Bert on Honor Flight this past October. It is such a special memory knowing your dad was able to go.

Ben was the best boss I ever had. He was full of laughter, but a sincere entrepreneur. I had enormous respect and an appreciation for his leadership at Uncle Charlie´s. A great man a great company with a family atmosphere. RIP Ben, you made this community a better place.
