Bengt Erik Mattsson, 90, of Warwick, RI, a native of Skane, Sweden, left this world after a long battle with Parkinson's Disease on Friday, March 8, 2024 surrounded by his loving family. He was the beloved husband of Gun Barbro (Lindberg) Mattsson for 64 years. He was the son of the late Verner and Olga (Jonsson) Mattsson of Sweden.
Bengt was born in Ostana Skane, Sweden and traveled to the USA at the age of 20 but would make frequent trips back to Sweden. He worked hard to make a life for himself and his family and attended the Rhode Island School of Design for Tool and Die Maker Engineering. After working for Brown and Sharp and Sabre Products, he started his own business, International Stamping, Inc. with two other partners. He was a talented soccer player in Sweden, and he was asked to play professional but was too young to leave Sweden at that time. He continued to play in America in Worcester, MA for many years until he broke his leg and had to stop. He was an avid member of VASA Order America, Johan Baner Lodge #36.
Besides his wife, he leaves behind two daughters, Anita Bevans and son-in-law Fred III and Karin Andrews. He was the precious 'Morfar' to two wonderful grandsons, Fred T. Bevans IV and Kristopher Erik Bevans. He had 4 brothers, the late Einar, Bertile and Arnold Mattsson and their families and is survived by Lennart Mattsson and his family.
A visitation will be held on Saturday, March 16, 2024 from 9-11am followed by a Funeral Ceremony at 11am in the Thomas & Walter Quinn Funeral Chapel, 2435 Warwick Ave., Warwick. A Private Burial will follow at Quidnessett Memorial Cemetery, North Kingstown. In lieu of flowers, the family requests you perform an act of kindness in Bengt Erik Mattsson's memory.
