Daniel W. Smith, age 66, passed away Tuesday, September 30, 2025 at Rhode Island Hospital with his family by his side. He was the beloved husband and best friend of Theresa H. (Daniels) Smith with whom he shared 37 treasured years of marriage. Born in Providence, he was the oldest of six children born to the late Louie Smith Jr. and Frances T. (Stasiukiewicz) Smith. Daniel was the oldest brother of Carol (Smith) Bass, Barbara Smith, Ann Smith, Billy Smith and Eddie Smith. He also leaves behind many nieces and nephews.

As a proud U.S. Veteran, he served our country with the Army as an NBC NCO during Operation Desert Storm. He then served 18 years with the Rhode Island Army National Guard as part of the 118th Military Police Battalion and was a member of Tri City Elk Lodge #14.

Daniel and Theresa were beginning their next chapter as retirees, often found together watching the newest Survival shows, history documentaries, or war movies. Daniel was an avid reader, always itching to learn about any topic he could.

He was the devoted father of Danielle Smith (husband, Kenny Chasse) and the cherished 'Grandad' of Amelia Chasse who loved nothing more than listening to Grandad's many tales either from a book or from his amusing imagination, a memory that Danielle also holds fondly from her own childhood as she recalls her father telling stories while giving her stuffed animals silly voices.

As the self-declared "chef" for the holidays, Daniel prided himself on providing a loving home and meal to family and friends, forever making anyone who needed a place to go feel welcome in his home on Christmas Day each year. He prided himself even more in his Canasta skills as playing cards was an often pastime with Daniel's siblings and daughter over the years. A true family man, nothing made him happier than spending time with those he loved.

Daniel's funeral will be held Monday, October 6, 2025 at 11am in the Thomas & Walter Quinn Funeral Home, 2435 Warwick Ave., Warwick. Burial with full Military Honors will immediately follow in the RI Veterans' Memorial Cemetery, Exeter. Visiting hours will be held on Sunday, October 5, 2025 from 4-7pm in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Tunnel to Towers Foundation, 2361 Hylan Blvd. Staten Island, NY 10306 are greatly appreciated.
