LILESVILLE - On Thursday, July 27, 2023, Mr. Benjamin Daniel Carpenter, 77, passed away peacefully at Hospice Haven in Rockingham.
Funeral services will be 2:00 PM Tuesday, August 1, 2023 in the Chapel of Leavitt Funeral Home. Interment will follow in Bethel Cemetery.
The family will greet friends one hour prior to the service on Tuesday at the funeral home.
Dan was born July 24, 1946 in Anson County, NC and was one of nine children of the late Lester Washington Carpenter and the late Lula Harrington Carpenter. He worked with Little Cotton Manufacturing in Wadesboro for 36 years, working until the closing of the plant. He worked a few other jobs along following retirement, but soon realized the other jobs were nothing like working at Little Cotton.
He became well-known for working on lawn mowers for about 20 years before his health prohibited him from being out side in the heat. He did not work on lawn mowers to make a living, he did it to merely help people out and make friends.
Dan was also known for his love of wood working and raising farm animals.
Those left to cherish his memory are his son, Daniel Carpenter of Lilesville; his grandchildren, Nicholas Hancock of Mt. Croghan, SC, Amanda Ratliff, Jonathan Carpenter and Emily Carpenter all of Lilesville; he has a number of great-grandchildren; his sister and brother, Jean Pruitt of Conway, SC, Frank Carpenter and Harvey Carpenter both of Lilesville and his nieces and nephews and their families.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Nancy Bell Carpenter; his daughter, Angela Ratliff and his sisters and brother, Midge Carpenter, Lib Simpson, Marlene Morris , Bob Carpenter and Freddy Carpenter.
The arrangements are in care of Leavitt Funeral Home and online condolences may be made at www.leavittfh.com
