Benjamin Catlin Miller

Benjamin Catlin Miller, a cherished educator, devoted community member, and beloved friend, passed away on December 24, 2025, at the age of 75. He was born December 15, 1950 in Picayune, Mississippi to the late Willie Lee "Bill" Miller, III and Emmy Lou Catlin Miller.

He began his professional journey at the Perry County Highway Department, where he served faithfully for 18 years. His love for education soon beckoned him to new horizons, and he enrolled in the adult degree program at Judson College, earning a teaching degree that would lead him to inspire countless students over a remarkable 22-year career as a Science teacher at Greensboro East Campus. Even after retirement, his zeal for teaching remained undiminished; he took on the role of Headmaster at Marion Academy, returning to his roots in science education for an additional five years. Benjamin made an indelible mark on the lives of his students, nurturing their curiosity and instilling a love for learning.

Benjamin's educational journey was as vibrant as his personality. He attended several institutions, from Northside Elementary School in Texas City, Texas, to Trinity Grammar School and Melbourne School in Australia, ultimately leading him to Tournesol School in Gstaad, Switzerland. His father's work inspired a global exploration during his formative years. Benjamin continued his education at Marion Military Institute, where he proudly participated as a member of the White Knights drill team and the tennis team. Later, he attended the University of South Alabama on a full scholarship, earning a degree in Psychology, which shaped his empathetic approach to teaching and life.

He was preceded in death by his brother, Willie Lee "Pete" (Susan) Miller, IV; sister, Becky Hendrick and sister-in-law, Pam Mitchell.

He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Elaine Nichols Miller; son, Nicholas Catlin Miller; brother, David (Daelin) Miller; numerous nieces and nephews; brother-in-law, Barry Mitchell and special side-kick, Coconut.

Known for his infectious smile and reassuring words, "Everything will be okay," Benjamin embodied positivity. His strong wit and humor brightened the lives of everyone around him, creating a warm presence that was both comforting and uplifting. He was a long-time member of Marion Methodist Church, where his faith and community involvement further reflected his generous heart.

In his leisure time, Benjamin embraced the joys of sports and the great outdoors. In his younger years, he played tennis passionately. He enjoyed hunting and fishing, treasuring moments spent in nature. As time passed, golf became his greatest passion, and he traveled throughout Central Alabama, not only playing various courses but also competing in local tournaments with his lovingly dubbed friends, known as his "golfing buddies." With the nickname "Mighty Mouse," he approached the game with the same spirit and enthusiasm he brought into every aspect of his life.

Funeral services will be Saturday, December 27, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. at Marion Methodist Church with Rev. Len Hurston officiating and Lawrence Brown-Service Funeral Home of Selma directing. Interment will follow at Pinecrest Memorial Cemetery. Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m., prior to the service. The family kindly requests that everyone please dress casually.

Pallbearers will be Randy Goss, David Wallace, Dave Clark, Gawin Rich, Corin Harrison, Jr., Scott Brewer, Jonathan Goode and Barry Mitchell.
