Bennie Coffman Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Arrington Funeral Directors and Crematory - Jackson on Sep. 15, 2025.

Bennie Paul Coffman of Jackson, Tennessee passed away peacefully on Monday, September 15, 2025, at Medina Health & Rehabilitation in Medina, Tennessee, surrounded by his loving family.

He was born on Friday, September 17, 1943, and was a lifelong resident of the East Union/Rose Hill community. Bennie's life spanned nearly 82 remarkable years that were filled with work, family, and friendships that left a lasting impact on those who knew him.

A proud graduate in the class of 1961 at Beech Bluff High School, Bennie embarked on his career early, joining the family-owned business, Coffman's Furniture, at the age of 12. His dedication and hard work continued at the store until it was sold in 2020, demonstrating a remarkable commitment of over six decades to the family enterprise and the community it served.

Bennie's personality was marked by his love for people and his enjoyment in interacting with them. Whether he was dealing with a family member, a customer, or an employee, each of the fruits of the Spirit could easily be seen in him.

Bennie was a longtime member of the East Chester church of Christ and later the Campbell Street church of Christ. His faith in God was the foundation that everything else in his life was built on.

Aside from his faith, the most important part of Bennie’s life was his family. He loved his wife, his kids, his grandkids, and his recently added great grandkids immensely and was extremely proud of all of them.

In his leisure time, he found joy in riding horses, 3-wheelers, 4-wheelers, bush hogging on his tractor, working at the barn, or taking a nap in his shop. He also enjoyed watching NASCAR, on TV or in person, which may explain where he learned to drive a little too fast.

Bennie was also an incredible handyman. Blessed with an unbelievable amount of common sense, he could work on cars and trucks, tractors and mowers, power tools, plumbing, electrical, and just about anything else he set his mind to. If he didn’t already know how to fix something, he could usually study it for a few minutes and figure it out.

Bennie is survived by his devoted wife, Sylvia Williams Coffman, with whom he shared 63 years of marriage. He is also survived by his sons, Mark Coffman and his wife Donna, David Coffman and his wife Katie, as well as his brother, Bobby Coffman and wife Anne, and sister Judy Cooper. Bennie was a cherished grandfather to Cody Lee Fitts and his wife Emily, Christopher Alan Clifton, II and his wife Baylee, Madalyn Coffman, Nora Coffman, Bailey Severns and her husband Billy, and Lane Coffman and his wife Abby. He was also a proud great-grandfather to Londyn Fitts, Bristol Fitts, and John Benton Coffman.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Paul V. and Eleanor Bailey Coffman, and his daughter, Deborah Jean Beare.

As family and friends gather to celebrate Bennie’s life, they are reminded of the immeasurable love he gave and the countless memories he leaves behind. Visitation with family and friends will be held on Saturday, September 20, 2025, from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m., followed by a funeral service at 3:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Arrington Funeral Directors, with Ray Hawk and Danny Sorrell, ministers officiating. Burial will follow at Browns Church Cemetery.

The family is requesting that memorial contributions be directed to:
