Coats, NC: Mr. Bennie Joe Grimes, age 83 passed away on Friday, April 19, 2024 at Springbrook Nursing and Rehab in Clayton, NC surrounded by his loving family.  Memorial Services will be held 11:00AM-Thursday, April 25, 2024 at Rose and Graham Funeral Chapel in Benson, NC.  Mr. Troy Grimes, Mrs. Kathy Peede and Pastor Cha Parker will officiate. 

Mr. Grimes was born on November 11, 1940 in Harnett County, NC to the late Melvin and Veda Mae Tart Grimes.  He was also preceded in death by his son, Bennie Joe Grimes, Jr., brothers, Jerry Mac Grimes, and Jackie Wayne Grimes, and a sister-in-law, Judy Mae Johnson.  Mr. Grimes was a farmer all of his life. Following his farming career he retired from the Harnett Correctional Institute as a Boiler Operator.  Upon receiving the call to ministry, Ben received his ministerial license and faithfully served the community spreading the Gospel.  He was a former trustee and deacon at Freedom Chapel Church, and was also a member, deacon, and Sunday School Teacher at Red Hill Penetecostal Free Will Baptist Church. 

Survivors include his wife of 40 years, Joan Johnson Grimes, sister, Kathy Gail Peede and husband, Mike of Coats, NC, brother, Randy Michael Grimes and wife, Tonya of Fuquay Varina, NC; sister-in-law, Judy B. Grimes of Goldsboro, NC;  brother-in-law, Jasper Johnson of Maryland; many loving nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends following the memorial service at Rose & Graham Funeral Home in Benson, NC, and other times at the home. 

The family appreciates your thoughts and prayers.
