Bernard Ballard Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Ware-Smith-Woolever Funeral Directors - Midland Chapel on Dec. 4, 2025.
In Loving Memory of Bernard Duane "Buck" Ballard+
Bernard Duane "Buck" Ballard, age 82, of Midland, left this world on Saturday, November 29, 2025, surrounded by the love of his family. Born on June 28, 1943, in Mt. Pleasant to Bernard B. and Hetty Ruth (Melvin) Ballard, Buck's journey began in Saginaw, where he grew up and graduated from Arthur Hill High School. It was there that he met his beloved Nancy Kelly, and together they built a life filled with devotion and joy.
Buck was a man who worked tirelessly to provide for those he loved, dedicating over 30 years to General Motors. His hands were never idle-he was a perfectionist, a craftsman, and a fixer of all things. Whether tending to his immaculate lawn, building a home from the ground up, or making improvements to the family house, Buck poured his heart into every project.
His passions were many: the thrill of a motorcycle ride, the camaraderie of a round of golf with lifelong friends, and the peace found on the waters of Wixom Lake or during a quiet walk outdoors. Nature was Buck's sanctuary, and he found happiness in every moment spent beneath the open sky.
After the loss of his cherished wife Nancy, Buck's life took a new turn when he met Barb. What began as friendship blossomed into a loving partnership that brought comfort and companionship for 23 wonderful years.
Buck's legacy is one of unwavering faith, hard work, and the belief that with determination, anything is possible. He inspired those around him to persevere and to cherish the simple joys of life.
He is survived by his loving wife, Barbara Ballard; his children, Brian (Robin) Ballard, Steve (Kim) Ballard, and Amy (Scott) Peters; step-daughter, Nichole (Sloane) Prior; grandchildren, Dakota Ballard, Marissa Ballard, Bryce (Morgan) Ballard, Ashley (Dylan) Borowski, Nicole Peters, and Finley Prior; great-granddaughter, Mila; brothers, Rod (Joan) Ballard and Brad Ballard; and sister, Jill (Bill) Jungman. He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife Nancy, and his brother, Barry Ballard.
A funeral service to celebrate Buck's life will be held at 1 p.m. on Sunday, December 21, 2025, at Ware Smith Woolever Funeral Home, 1200 West Wheeler Street. Family and friends are invited to gather and share memories before the service beginning at 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, those wishing to honor Buck's memory may consider a donation to the American Heart Association or the Toni and Trish House.
The Ballard family extends their heartfelt gratitude to Ware Smith Woolever for their care and support during this time.
