Rev. Bernard G. Murray

Rev. Dr. Bernard Gilbert Murray, Sr. entered into heaven's gates on November 11, 2024, with his loving wife at his side. Bernard, a native of LaPlace, La., was born on September 22, 1934, to the union of the late Rosia Chopin Mitchell and Gessley Murray. He was the youngest of 3 sons. He attended 5th Ward High School initially and graduated from Booker T. Washington High School. Rev. Murray was the Pastor of Greater Mount Rose Missionary Baptist Church for the past 33 years where he touched the lives of many including those in the community. His members were his pride and joy as he gave countless hours until his health began to fail. He was a member and lead singer of The Rocks of Harmony Gospel group for many years prior to his call to the ministry. Rev. Murray was the Corresponding Secretary and past Treasurer of United Baptist Association Incorporated. For many years, Rev. Murray was the officiant performing many weddings at the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival. He is survived by his wife Carolyn Monley Murray. His children Roger, Ronald, Bonnie, Gertrude, Rose, Emily, Bernard, Sara and Semone', 28 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and his beloved Greater Mount Rose church family. He was preceded in death by his parents, oldest son Raynard Murray, brothers James "Rock" Murray and Edwin Murray and sister Eloise Murray. Rev. Murray will lie in state at the Greater Mount Rose Missionary Baptist Church 1322 Simon Bolivar Avenue on Friday, November 29, 2024, from 3:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. Funeral Services on Saturday, November 30, 2024, at Corinthian Missionary Baptist Church #2 2601 Jackson Ave. New Orleans, La. 70113. Viewing 9:00 a.m. until 10:00 a.m. Celebration of Life Service at 10:00 a.m. United Baptist Association, Inc. in charge * President Rev. Gerald L. Vinnett, Sr. Officiating.
