Bernard Simpson Sr., 88, of Vilonia, peacefully passed from this life on Sunday, January 4, 2026, at Heritage Living Center in Conway. He was born August 10th, 1937, in the Big Creek Community of Arkansas to the late Guy and Elmira Simpson.
Bernard grew up in Brookland Arkansas with two brothers and sisters. He met his future wife, Edna, through working in the cotton fields together. They quickly fell in love and were married in 1960. They moved to Jonesboro where he would spend many of his years being a devoted husband and father to two sons, Bernie and Steve Simpson.
A dedicated and hardworking man, Bernard proudly served in the military and was a veteran of the United States Army. After serving in the military, Bernard became a firefighter with the City of Jonesboro, where he served his community with honor and commitment. He later retired as a truck driver and was a member of the Teamsters Union.
In his spare time, he enjoyed refurbishing antique furniture, gardening, and fishing—hobbies that reflected his patience, craftsmanship, and love of the outdoors. He was a devout Christian and faithfully served his church and community. He was a member of North Main Baptist Church in Jonesboro before moving to Vilonia and was ordained as a deacon at Beryl Baptist Church.
In addition to his parents, Bernard was preceded in death by his brothers, J.E. Simpson and Ray Simpson.
He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Edna Simpson of Vilonia; his sons, Bernie Simpson (Janet) of Vilonia and Steve Simpson (Laura) of Conway; grandchildren, Zachary Simpson (Andrea), Mallory Campbell (William), Luke Simpson, Emily Bezet (Tanner), and Lacey Allen (Reed); and great-grandchildren, Jana Simpson, Evie Campbell, Ella Jane Bezet, Blakely Bezet, and William Bezet.
A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, January 11, 2026, at Pine Log Cemetery with Bryce King officiating.
Bernard will be remembered for his strong work ethic, deep faith, and unwavering devotion to his family.
