Dorthy,
My heartfelt condolences to you. We shared many good times with you and Bernie on our boat "DREAM" and many pitchers of camels milk. May God hold you extra close and give you strength to endure the difficult days ahead. I´m sure Ron greeted him in heaven and they are reminiscing. You are in my thoughts and prayers. My condolences to Dorthy and family,

I am so sorry for your loss; Bernie was such a fine man. I met Bernie while he was employed by St Lukes Hospital, and I was a Toledo Police Department felony detective. One afternoon while I was searching for a suspect wanted on a felony robbery warrant in a high crime area, I noticed Bernie knocking on a door to a house in the area. No one answered the door, which is not uncommon for that area. Bernie was well dressed, and the resident may have even suspected he was a cop or bill collector.

I approached Bernie and identified myself. I asked him what he was doing, and he said he was looking for a lady who he had work business with. I mentioned to him that he was in a high crime area and should be careful, especially since he was alone. He said, well you are alone, and I said yes but I carry a gun and have a police radio if I need help. We both laughed and talked for a while. Bernie called me a few times and we had lunch together, while also shooting a few emails back and forth.

Bernie was such a nice guy and so interesting due to his long and distinguished service record. One has to be amazed that one person can accomplish what he did in one lifetime.

I enjoyed our casual friendship and will think about him often.

Sincerely,

Frank Stiles
