On August 2, 2025, Bernice Spielman of Rockville, MD, passed away peacefully at her home. She was the beloved mother of Scott Spielman (Joanne) and Laurie Spielman and cherished grandmother of Benjamin and Noah Spielman. Born in the Bronx, Bernice moved to New Jersey to raise her family. She lived in Matawan and Lakewood, before moving to Rockville, MD to be closer to her family.

Bernice was a former physical education teacher and coach at Tottenville High School in Staten Island, NY. She was the owner and director at Pine Grove Day Camp in Jamesburg, NJ and Wall Township, NJ. She was beloved by her students, particularly those on her gymnastics and bowling teams, and the generations of campers and staff whose lives she touched at Pine Grove.

Bernice was an avid traveler who enjoyed learning about other cultures. Her journeys included trips to Japan, Iceland, China, Southeast Asia, Europe and the United States. She was a creative spirit, finding joy in designing and building dollhouses, each one a tiny masterpiece crafted with care, as well as refinishing furniture and crafting one-of-a-kind chessboards. Her garden was another canvas, and she loved being surrounded by plants in her greenhouse, garden and patio.

Above all, Bernice cherished time spent with her family and her granddogs. She showered her children and grandsons with love, laughter and stories they will carry with them always.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, August 5, at 10 am, at the chapel at The Village at Rockville, 9701 Veirs Dr, Rockville, MD 20850. A luncheon will be held following the service.

The family will be sitting shiva on Tuesday and Wednesday, August 5 and 6, at Glenmere, The Village at Rockville, 9807 Veirs Drive, Rockville, MD 20850. The family will be receiving guests from 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm with Kaddish recited at 8:15 pm.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital or Hadassah.
