Doris Celia Kastan, 92, passed away at her home this week in Rockville, Maryland. She is survived by her children, Marcia and Michael, and their spouses, Jay and Kathy; by her grandchildren, Keith, Pam, Ben, Nathaniel and Jon, and their spouses, Emily, Ben, Amanda, Janelle, and Martine; and by her great-grandchildren, Josh, Drew, Leigh, Naomi, Ezra, and Henry. The daughter of Nathan and Pauline Sandler and the sister of Eve Herman and Joseph Sandler, all of blessed memory, Doris was born in Brooklyn, NY in 1933. She married her husband William (Bill), of blessed memory, in 1951 and together, along with their two young children, they made a big move to North Carolina in 1960 where Bill worked in the hosiery textile business. The family lived in Newton, Statesville, and Charlotte over the years and after her kids were in college, she and Bill moved back to the northeast, first in Cherry Hill and then in North Brunswick, NJ. Doris was always family-first and reveled in the accomplishments of her kids and grandkids. She never missed a graduation or life event for any of her kids, grandkids, or great-grandkids. Even at the age of 92, she remembered everyone's names and happenings over the decades of her life. She was one of those rare individuals who lived over 9 decades without taking any medications; instead she believed in the health benefits of rice and a daily scoop of ice cream. She will be remembered for her fierce love of family and a joy of dancing and music.

Her funeral will be held on Sunday, Oct. 5, at 1PM at Floral Park Cemetery, South Brunswick, NJ.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Duke Cancer Institute.
