Bert D. Sluyter (b. 4/11/1935) passed away peacefully on the morning of June 10. He was 88 years old. Born to parents Clara and Gert Sluyter, he was a native of North Muskegon and attended North Muskegon High School, graduating in 1953. Bert was a proud UAW welder at Neway for 38 years. His creative spirit carried over into his personal time as well, where he worked on carpentry and home improvement projects, including making furniture, painting, and building birdhouses. He was an avid outdoorsman - especially fishing at the family cottage in Fremont, and hunting at the family cabin in Irons - a voracious reader, and a frequent breakfast-goer.
He is preceded in death by both parents, nine siblings, and two children. He is survived by his beloved wife of 68 years, Barbara, his son, Gary, and grandchildren Kali and Joshua, as well as many other cherished extended family and friends.
The family requests in lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Harbor Hospice in his honor. A celebration of life will be scheduled for a later date.
