Muskegon, Michigan
Richard D. Sluyter, Sr. "Dick", age 78, of Muskegon, passed away on Friday, June 9, 2023, following a short illness. He was born on May 2, 1945 the son of Gert and Clara (Goodrich) Sluyter. Dick was employed for several years as a custodian for Whitehall District Schools. He was always available, regardless of the project, to lend a helping hand. He was a very talented wood worker always providing special projects for his loved ones. He loved to fish and spentmany weekends on the Saginaw River with his brothers and boys. He always wore that "grumpy" look but if you knew you knew, he was far from that and he had an infectious smile and a very special way to pick on everyone he loved.
Richard is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Susan L. (Coffell) Sluyter; along with 4 sons, Michael (Bobbie) Coffell, Richard Jr (Kelly) Sluyter, Bradley (Amy Stenberg) Sluyter and Shawn(Melissa Martin) Sluyter; Grandchildren, Cheyenne Petersen, Katie (Derek Hoerle) Woodring,Ashley (Eddie) Brito, Makayla (Jared) Gensler, Bailey Sluyter, Shayde (Ronnie Taylor) Sluyter,Joshua Sluyter, Zachary & Austin Coffell and Corbin Petersen; Great Grandchildren, RyanCampbell, Harrison and Callen Sluyter. He is also survived by many sisters & brothers-n-law,nieces, nephews and other family and friends.
He was preceded in death by one son, his parents, 3 sisters and 4 brothers, with his last brother Bert passing the following day.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, July 29, 2023 from 11am-2pm at Rich and Kelly's home at 1678 W. McMillan Rd, Muskegon MI 49445.
