Raymond Edwin Sluyter, 83, of Jefferson City, passed away on Friday, January 5, 2024 at University Hospital in Columbia, Missouri, surrounded by family. He was born on June 28, 1940 in Tecumseh, Michigan, a son of the late Raymond and Jessie (Means) Sluyter. On August 24, 1990, he was united in marriage to Kathryn Ann Begley in Miami, Oklahoma, she survives at their home.
Raymond was a 1958 graduate of Tecumseh High School and a 1962 graduate of the University of Michigan with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Marketing. He served his country in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War from 1963 to 1967. Raymond was a manufacturing manager at Unilever and retired after 33 years of service. After retirement, he was a volunteer driver at D.A.V. He was a collector of model trains, enjoyed hunting, was an avid fisherman and loved woodworking and spending time with his wife and the rest of the family.
Along with his wife, Kathryn, he is survived by his children: Scott McCutchen (Kim) of Jefferson City, Chris McCutchen of Jefferson City, Mike McCutchen of Chesterfield, Mindy Shivers (Jim) of Jefferson City, Brian Sluyter of Jefferson City, Dirk Sluyter (Kathy) of Russellville, and Patrick McCutchen (Amanda) of Jefferson City; grandchildren: Amanda Patrick, Nick, Reagan, Lily and Logan McCutchen, Katie Brown, Jeremy and Ryan Shivers, Zane, Susan, Jessie, Aubrey and Hannah Sluyter; great-grandchildren: Jordan, Brady and Maryn Shivers, Wesley Hill, Caroline Patrick. Raymond was preceded in death by a grandson; John McCutchen in 2009.
Friends will be received on Monday, January 8. 2024 at Houser-Millard Funeral Directors for a visitation from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. with a Memorial Service at 3:00 p.m. with Reverend Joe Skiles officiating. Interment will follow at Riverview Cemetery with full military honors.
