Bertha "Betty" M. (Lassig) Callahan, 96, of Gardner, died peacefully Sunday, June 8, 2025, in Sterling Village, Sterling, after a period of declining health.
Born in Rehoboth on January 8, 1929, she was the daughter of the late Charles and Clara (Peters) Lassig. She graduated from Joseph Case High School in Swansea with the Class of 1947. Betty was a branch manager of Guaranty Bank and Trust for many years until her retirement.
Betty was a congregant of the Congregational Church of Christ of Leominster. She was a member of the Business Professional Women's Club. Family was Betty's greatest joy and love in her life. During her younger years, she spent countless hours as the Den Mother for her son's Cub Scout Troop. Most importantly, as she aged, she cherished the time spent with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. In her spare time, Betty enjoyed playing cards and doing yard work.
Betty is survived by her sons, Steven Callahan and his wife Usha of Simpsonville, SC, David Callahan of Gardner, and Thomas Callahan and his wife Angela of Fitchburg; grandchildren, Stacey Callahan of Gardner, and Lauren Massarone and her husband Steve of N. Providence, RI; great-grandchildren, Ryan, Sophia and Paige Taylor; several nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was predeceased by her granddaughter, Jessica Ares; her siblings, Doris Davenport, Raymond, Paul, and Charles Lassig; a daughter-in-law, Audrey Callahan; and her life partner, George G. Barbin.
Graveside Services will be held Thursday, June 12, 2025, at 12:00 p.m. in Wildwood Cemetery, West Street, Gardner, MA.
