Bertha Chavez, 62 of Tucumcari, NM passed away on Saturday, February 24, 2024 in Clovis, NM.
Bertha was born on June 28, 1961 to Ramon Chavez and Celia (Martinez) Chavez in Tucumcari, NM. Bertha was raised in Tucumcari, where she also attended school. On January 23, 1982, Bertha married Charlie Chavez at St. Anne's Catholic Church in Tucumcari.
A life-long resident of Tucumcari, Bertha was also a parishioner at St. Anne's Catholic Church. Bertha's career was in home health and also as a lunch monitor with the Tucumcari Public Schools.
In her free time, Bertha enjoyed caring for and spending time with her grandchildren and close friends. She also enjoyed the outdoors, getting plenty of Vitamin D.
Bertha is preceded in death by her parents, her infant child: Baby Chavez, her mother and father-in-law: Felimon and Mable Chavez, brothers-in-law: Lupe Lopez and Frank and Phillip Chavez, and her sisters-in-law: Elisha Chavez and Stella Chavez.
Bertha is survived by her husband: Charlie, of the family home, her children: Sonya (Jeremy) Montaño, Felimon (Desiree) Chavez, all of Tucumcari and Charllene (Cody) Meier of Hobbs, NM. Bertha is also survived by her grandchildren: Heaven (Ulises) Lopez, Jaelen and Eliana Montaño, Nehemiah Chavez, Jordan Chavez, Trey Chavez, Andres Chavez, Isiah Benavidez and Alexis Meier, her great-grandchildren: Uhziah and Renee Lopez, Alejandro Benavidez and another great-grandchild on the way. Also surviving Bertha are her siblings: Dolores Lopez of Clovis, Ernie (Paula) Chavez, Johnny Ray Chavez, Priscilla (Ted) Lovato and Norman Chavez-all of Tucumcari. In-laws surviving Bertha are: Felimon (Juanita) Chavez, Jr. of Amarillo, TX, Sonny (Dorothy) Chavez of Las Vegas, NV, Mae (Michael) Hughes of Halton, TX, Joe ( Verla) Chavez of Portales, Robert (Gwen) Chavez of Tucumcari, Alfred (Georgia) Chavez of Tucumcari, Ruby ( Danny) Sandoval of Las Vegas, NV, Ruben (Sylvia) Chavez of Tucumcari, Daniel Chavez of Tucumcari, Rocky (Gina) Chavez and Charlotte (Scott) Marquart, both of Tucumcari, as well as numerous nephews, nieces, family and friends.
Visitation for Bertha will be from 9:30 to 10:30AM on Tuesday, March 5, 2024 at St. Anne's Catholic Church in Tucumcari, followed by the Recitation of The Most Holy Rosary beginning at 10:30 AM, then immediately followed by the Mass of Christian Burial, with Father JohnPaul Afuecheta officiating the service.
Pallbearers will be: Charlie Chavez, Sonya and Jeremy Montaño, Felimon and Desiree Chavez and Charllene and Cody Meier. Honorary Pallbearers will include: Bertha's grandchildren, great-grandchildren, her siblings, nephews and nieces.
Cremation will take place following the service, with burial of cremains at a later date.
