Bertha Mae Pottmeyer, 96, of Marietta, Ohio, died on Sunday, August 18, 2024 at Elison Assisted Living, surrounded by her loving family. She was born on November 20, 1927 in Waterford, Ohio, to the late Leo and Alice Keller Strahler. She was the last one living of 12 children.
Bertha was married to Richard Pottmeyer on August 11, 1948. She had an upholstery shop on 676 for 38 years. Bertha was a member of St. John's Catholic Church in Churchtown and the Catholic Women's Club. She enjoyed her family, quilting, embroidering, cooking, dominos and cards.
She is survived by five generations: five daughters, Donna Sommer (Nick), Janet Steinel (Larry, deceased), Judy McCoy, Charlene Hoff (Tom), and Cheryl Miller (Don); three sons, Rick (Kim), Gerald and Kevin (Janell); 27 grandchildren, 23 great grandchildren, and three great great grandchildren; one sister in law, Philomena Pottmeyer; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Richard; two grandchildren, Lani Pottmeyer and Jared Hoff; son in law, Larry Steinel; eight brothers, Francis (Mary), Howard (Grace), Arthur (Georgia), Ralph (Eloise), Bernard (Joanne), Louis (Anna Mae), Cecil (Liz) and Harold (Irene); and three sisters, Ruth Neader (Bob), Mary Grasley (Herb) and Leona Henniger (Jack).
Funeral Liturgy with Mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, August 23, 2024, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, with the Rev. David Gaydosik celebrating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will be on Thursday, from 5 to 7 p.m. at the MARIETTA CHAPEL OF CAWLEY & PEOPLES FUNERAL HOME, with a Vigil Service held at 7 p.m.
The family would like to thank Amedisys Home Health and Elison Assisted Living for the exceptional care they gave to their mother. Donations may be sent to Amedisys Home Health & Hospice, St. John's Church or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
