Bertha Jean VanAlstine, age 94 of Lake Orion, Michigan, formerly of Big Rapids, Michigan, passed away at home peacefully on November 5, 2025 surrounded by loved ones.
She was born in Pontiac, Michigan the daughter of deceased L.G. and Hazel Beaumont on October 18,1931.
Beloved wife of the late Allen "Bud" VanAlstine; proud mother of Glen Allen (Brenda) VanAlstine and Bonnie (Theodore) Younk; proud grandmother of Tiffany (Jason), Stephanie (Dell), Rosemary (Matt), Raina (Aaron), Shellie (Bill) and step-grandmother of Caraline Younk. ; great-grandmother of Jordan, A'Shawnta, Lucas, Jacob, Haileigh, Alan, Bruce (Sarah), Brandon, Ashley (John), AJ, and Tyler (Merissa); great-great-grandmother of Emmy, Harper Jean, Hadley, and Stevie; sister of Norma (Minto) Trevino, the late Wayne Beaumont (Kitty) and the late William Beaumont (Lucille); sister-in-law of Roger (late Donna) VanAlstine and Lynn (late Connie) VanAlstine. Also survived by many nieces and nephews and her grand dogs whom she loved.
Bertha graduated from Roosevelt School in Keego Harbor, Michigan where she met her beloved "darling" Allen "Bud" VanAlstine. They were engaged to get married when Bud was drafted to the Korean war (1951-1953). On April 25, 1953, Bertha-Jean married Bud. Her family meant everything to her. She was a devoted christian and proud member of the Grant Center United Methodist Church in Big Rapids, Michigan.
Bertha loved traveling and making memories with her children and grandchildren. She spent a lot of time quilting and gardening. She was always up for an adventure going shopping or a good jamboree. She was also a part of the Red Hatters of Big Rapids. She never wanted to miss a thing. After Bud passed in 2020, she moved to Lake Orion to be cared for by her children. She was a member of Good Shepard Lutheran Church of Lake Orion, Michigan
Her legacy will live on with her contagious love and hugs for others.
A memorial service will be held on November 23, 2025 – 12:00 p.m. at Grant Center United Methodist Church, 15260 21 Mile Road, Big Rapids, Michigan.
Inurnment will take place at 21 Mile Road North Cemetery (Grant Center Cemetery) with dinner to follow at Town Hall.
In lieu of sending flowers, the family invites you to make donations to Grant Center United Methodist Church and Good Shepherd Lutheran Church.
