Mrs. Bessie Engle Baker was born September 4, 1940 in Leslie County, Kentucky. Bessie is the daughter of the late Lillie Engle and the late Vycie Roberts Engle. Bessie passed away Sunday, June 16, 2024 at the Hazard ARH Medical Center, Hazard, Kentucky. She was 83 years old. Bessie had been a life long resident of Leslie County with exception of living in Hazard for the last few years. Bessie was a former employee for the Hyden Health & Rehab Center in Hyden as a cook. She enjoyed sewing, reading her Bible, cooking, working puzzles and especially loved spending time with her family.
Bessie is preceded in death by her beloved parents, Lillie and Vycie Roberts Engle, loving and devoted husband, Pearl Baker, brothers, Johnny Engle, Harold Engle and Clarence Engle and his wife, Josephine and daughter, Vickie Ann Baker Stacy. She leaves the following relatives surviving; cherished sons, Rick Baker and wife, Connie, Hyden, KY and Josh Baker and wife, Devina, Hazard, KY, brothers, Gary Engle and wife, Carolyn, Newport, KY. and James Engle and wife, Barbara, London, KY, sisters, Brenda Coots and husband, Billy Ray, Smilax, KY, Alphie Lewis and husband, Larry, Smilax, KY, Sharon Maggard and husband, Donald, Smilax, KY, Shirley Henson & husband, Mason, Jackson, KY, Edna Pennington, Newport, KY & Wanda Collett and husband, Richard, Fairborn, OH, special friends, James and Ann Williams and Lena Engle, London, KY, special person, Zander Baker, treasured grandchildren, Christy Shepherd and Jonathan, Ricky Baker and Brittany & Jessica Baker and Dustin Ashley and 12 treasured great grandchildren. Also a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives & friends survive.
Funeral: Wednesday, June 19, 2024 at 12:00 Noon at the Dwayne Walker Funeral Home, Hyden, KY
Ministers: David Pennington, Don Kilburn and Jonathan Shepherd
Interment: Lillie Engle Family Cemetery, Smilax, KY
Pallbearers: Ricky Baker, Josh Baker, Rider Baker, Zaiden Baker, Cooper Baker, Dustin Ashley, Caleb Shepherd and Ben Baker
Visitation: Tuesday, June 18, 2024 at 6:00 P.M. at the Dwayne Walker Funeral Home
