Bessie Rose Dobias, beloved mother, grandmother, teacher, and friend, went to meet her heavenly Father on October 25, 2025, at the age of 83. She passed peacefully at home, surrounded by her loving family. Bessie was born on October 6, 1942, in Granger, Texas, to Robert (Bob) and Nettie Rozacky. She graduated from Granger High School in 1961, where she began many lifelong friendships that she continued to cherish throughout her life. Bessie loved attending her class reunions and the annual Granger Lakefest, where she reconnected with dear friends and celebrated her hometown roots. After high school, Bessie attended Southwest Texas State College (now Texas State University), earning her Bachelor of Science degree in Education in 1965. She later obtained her Master's degree in Education from Texas A&M–Commerce, a testament to her lifelong love of learning and teaching. On October 23, 1965, Bessie married Norman Dobias. They moved to Mesquite, Texas, in 1966, where they began their life together and formed many friendships that lasted a lifetime. Bessie began her teaching career in Hutto before joining Mesquite ISD, where she taught 2nd grade for 30 years. Her kindness, patience, and dedication to her students touched countless lives. In April of 1997, she was honored with the Mesquite ISD Apple Corps Award, recognizing her excellence and compassion as an educator. After retirement, Bessie and Norman moved to Holland, Texas. Bessie was a member of the First Baptist Church in Holland. Additionally, she joined the Women's Study Club, which helped her form many wonderful friendships in her retirement years. Outside of the classroom, Bessie found joy in many creative and meaningful pursuits. She loved scrapbooking, quilting, traveling, tending to her flowers, and researching family genealogy. Bessie was also very proud of her Czech heritage, cherishing the traditions, language, and values passed down through her family.
The family would like to express their deepest gratitude to the caregivers who added such value, comfort, and kindness to Bessie's life during the past year. Your care and compassion brought peace and joy to her days and meant so much to her and to all who loved her. Bessie was preceded in death by her husband, Norman Dobias; her parents, Robert and Nettie Rozacky; and her sister and brother-in-law, Barbara and James "Bubba" Hill. She is survived by her two daughters, Lori Kinard and Monica (Barry) Ansley; and her cherished grandchildren, Ashlyn (Casey) Kidd, Natalie Ansley, Rachel Ansley, Hannah Ansley, Olivia Ansley, and Nathan Ansley. Bessie will be remembered for her patience, her calm demeanor, her loyalty, and her willingness to help with the grandchildren. Her family will forever treasure the many beautiful memories they shared.
